Description: Mechanical Engineer – Product Engineering (San Francisco, California)
Product: Wearable fitness tracker
What you will do:
Conduct rapid feasibility studies to design for optimal cost, schedule, and performance.
Design mechanical components for accessories and product level devices as needed
Oversee internal and external builds
Drive manufacturability and tooling root cause analysis for production lifecycle parts
Design tooling and quality for accessories
Facilitate the appropriate use of Design reviews (internally and with external partners)
Contribute to the evolution of the Fitbit Design process including driving mechanical design validation processes
Plot data and generate reports, introduce new tools and processes for design improvements
Travel to Asia for builds and tactical problem solving (20%)
Mentor and develop junior engineers
Qualifications:
BS in Mechanical Engineering related disciple or demonstrated equivalent experience
4+ years’ experience designing consumer oriented products with emphasis on highly cosmetic plastic injection molding, sheet metal, mechanisms, and accessories
Can articulate & defend engineering decisions
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with Far East suppliers and ODM’s
Volume ramp experience in consumer electronics
Team oriented and effective communicator
Highly proficient in 3D MCAD. Prefer ProEngineer / Creo.
Creative self-starter with an ability to devise solutions to complex problems with diverse, sometimes opposing, concerns
Agile Development and/or Kanban management
